Boris Midney was born into a family of classical musicians in Moscow, Russia - his father a prominent symphony orchestra and choir conductor, and a renowned pianist, his mother an opera singer. Boris studied at the renowned Gnesin Music Institute and the Moscow Conservatory.

In the US, Boris signed with the ABC/Impulse Records Jazz label and within a few months, this results in the release of two critically acclaimed albums. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, he follows up with a US jazz tour and is featured as a leading Alto Sax soloist in the Encyclopedia of Jazz by Leonard Feather.

A progressive Big Band jazz arranger, his works included scores for the Merv Griffin and Johnny Carson shows. Eventually Boris established himself as an NBC symphonic orchestra composer for TV show ID’s and In-House projects such as NBC’s Bi-Centennial.

Through continued study and experimentation, Boris Midney achieved recognition as an authority in recording studio design and audio engineering, earning him several best Producer-Engineer awards.

Combining symphonic scoring with R&B, in concept with Alec Costandinos, Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder, Boris launched a new style that topped the Billboard charts - Disco. Numerous albums followed.
